Let's Dive Right Into

Updated: Dec 19, 2021

First thing first...in order to DJ, you will need to invest in a dedicated computer, tablet or iPad. When I first started, I used my personal HP, Windows based computer. It was all great until I started to run out of memory due to the amount of audio files. If you intend on using a computer, make sure that it has enough memory on it, OR...INVEST IN AN EXTERNAL HARDRIVE to house all of your music.

Music can be downloaded from many different music sites, such as Amazon Music, iTunes, SoundCloud or YouTube. Let's break these down a bit...

  • Soundcloud - Requires membership to listen...just to listen. If you intend on listening and downloading you may want to upgrade your membership to SoundCloud Go+, which costs $9.99/month. It guarantees ad-free listening; save unlimited tracks for offline listening; access to the full catalog; mixtracks within select DJ apps; high-quality audio. Soundcloud Go is $4.99 per month. This only allows for ad-free listening and the ability to save unlimited tracks for offline listening..

  • Apple Music - Apple customers are all familiar iTunes, but if you are an Android user, you may not be as familiar. This site requires an active account. $4.99/mo for students, $9.99/mo for individuals or $14.99/mo for families. customers are provided Apple Music radio stations, unlimited listening and unlimited skips. You will also gain access to your purchased and ripped library.

  • Amazon Music - this feature is free if you are already an Amazon Prime customer. It allows for customized download lists. A prime membership will run you $12.99/month or $119 for a year. This is renewable each year.

  • Reverbnation - This site has a very easy interactive interface, you can search music by genres, however a user account is required if you plan on downloading music.

  • Jamendo - The quality of the audio is not very high. It offers several ways to download and access to a mobile app.

  • Soundclick - Simple interface, large selection of songs but not every song is available for downloading. Another bonus is that it doesn't require you to register.

  • YouTube - You can download music directly from YouTube. You can find a lot of music. There are many different downloaders available. This is my personal favorite.

  • Bandcamp - Well, this site offers a huge collecgtion of music and has free and paid plans. Free users can listen to paid songs and no account is needed to stream music.

Don't download just one type of genres...make a very large library that has music from all walks of life. You would be surprised to find that you will play the most likely songs for the young and the old!
